How Much Does Wallpaper Cost?

Wallpaper material cost

Wallpaper is typically priced per roll (or per yard for continuous goods), and the range is wide: mass-market printed rolls often start under $30, mid-range designer patterns commonly run $50–$150 per roll, and high-end designer or hand-printed papers can run well past $200 per roll. Prices vary by brand, pattern complexity, and material (vinyl, non-woven, grasscloth, etc.), so the roll count matters as much as the per-roll price — that's what our calculator solves.

Installation labor cost

If you're hiring a professional installer rather than hanging it yourself, labor is usually quoted per square foot of wall area, and rates vary significantly by region and the complexity of the pattern (a large repeat or drop match takes longer to hang than a random texture). Get a quote from a local installer for an accurate number — regional rates vary too much to give one universal figure here.

Example: a typical bedroom

For a 12×15 ft bedroom with a 9 ft ceiling — 486 sqft of wall area — you'd need about 9 rolls of a standard 27 in wide, 33 ft long roll (see our measuring guide for how that number is derived). At a mid-range $75/roll, that's roughly $675 in material. Installation labor is on top of that and quoted separately by your installer based on their rate and the wall area.

Ways to save

  • Choose a random-match or straight-match pattern instead of a drop match — less pattern waste means fewer rolls.
  • Wallpaper one accent wall instead of the whole room to get the look at a fraction of the material cost.
  • Order the exact roll count from our calculator rather than over-buying "just in case" — the built-in buffer already covers reasonable mistakes.
  • Compare per-yard continuous goods against pre-cut rolls for irregularly sized rooms — our calculator supports both.
